I'm trying to reserve judgment for the most part about this DMC shit but there was this one article I took issue with.

God I hated Heavenly Sword.

And unrelatedly.

Date: 2010-09-15 09:16 pm (UTC)The reason I'm excited is because - from my DMC1 fangirl POV - Capcom's been raping it's own canon from DMC1 since 3 came out. 2 was neutral and didn't mess with the story of 1 in any direction, but 3 fucked it up merrilly. This actually looks closer to the canon of game 1 than 3 was, so I am *tentatively* excited. Here's to hoping we finally get to see Dante during the period where he doesn't know he has demonic powers(can I dream that he might get called Tony Redgrave in this? Be still my heart) and how he interacts with regular human beings. The implication in the trailer that there's some kind of police force gives me hope for this.
Dante used to be about protecting the human world (AKA PEOPLE) from the demons....It wasn't (entirely) about his own ego, it was about protecting something else....and I really, really missed that in 2, 3 and 4.
I'm just going "Please, please give me a game where I give a shit about why I need to beat a boss fight (and not just mash buttons until the fight is over and the game allows me to advance to the next cutscene)"
I remember when DMC wasn't just about endless streams of minion enemies and how many complicated combos you could pull killing them, but actually had a sense of exploration and learning about the world Dante's in, and Dante actually seemed kind of...worldly and intelligent.....remember how you could look at your surroundings in DMC1 and Dante had comments on everything he saw, ala Resident Evil? I always thought it was awesome that he seemed to understand religion, politics and alchemy enough to comment on stuff he saw...
I DO agree that I hate the outfit though...but that's because I think the game should be set in the 1980s if it's Dante's youth, not updated to be Modern Times. I hate it when companies use a sliding time scale rather than placing their characters in historic context.
I don't mind the skinniness if they let us know that Dante is 15 years old in this game or something though.
...but anyway sorry if I rambled, but I guess I thought that my hope about the reboot might give you another perspective to look at it from, so you don't just go "AUGH IT WILL BE TERRIBLE".
...though it probably will be. I'm a pessimist. T_T;
PS: I did laugh at your shoop. Hartilly. XD

Date: 2010-09-15 09:35 pm (UTC)Actually you raised some really good points there. I've always had DMC1 and 3 as my favourites of the series and the first game's always just been an absolute masterpeice. It definitely kind of got a lot more... childish, I think you could say. Obviously that worked for 3, maybe not always so much in 4.
STILL. I'll be with you on this and try to hold out hope XD like I said in the post, I'm not gonna condemn it forever from what we know at the moment, because we really do know so little.
